Life brings moments that call for clarity. Stepping away—through travel and practice—offers a natural reset. A quiet space doesn't demand withdrawal from life; it simply asks for presence.
Guided by Nandaji (Sri Nandakumar), this retreat in the serene hills of Izu weaves āsana, prāṇāyāma, meditation, and philosophical reflection into a steady daily rhythm. The structure supports self-observation, helping you recognize what you need and gradually learn to guide your own practice with confidence.
Your six-day five nights stay is thoughtfully balanced: morning discipline sets the tone, while the afternoons are yours to shape—whether through rest, reflection, or sitting in stillness.
"Strength grows without force—through quiet, intentional action."

About The Teacher
Sri Nandakumar (Nandaji)
Nandaji is a certified senior Iyengar Yoga teacher with decades of dedicated practice.
His journey began in the 1990s at the Sky Yoga Centre and Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram in Tamil Nadu.
Lineage & Training
He received extensive training under B.K.S. Iyengar, Geetaji, and Prashantji. His approach was further refined under the guidance of Br. Rudradevaji in Rishikesh and Sri Ramananand Patel in Pune, where he deepened his understanding of the Iyengar method through sustained study.
Philosophy & Approach
In parallel with physical discipline, Nandaji studied Vedanta with H.H. Swami Dayananda Saraswati. This philosophical foundation informs his teaching, allowing āsana and prāṇāyāma to be approached with inquiry and inner alignment. His classes integrate disciplined physical practice with reflective understanding, supporting students in developing steadiness, discernment, and independence.
The Environment
A Traditional Sanctuary in Izu
The retreat is hosted at Irai Village, a space rooted in simplicity and maintained by local practitioners. Built by senior Oki-do Yoga teacher Mr. Matsuyoshi Sato, the venue reflects over thirty years of dedicated practice.
The Space
Far from modern distractions, the interior features traditional wooden construction, soft natural light, and a calm atmosphere. It is perfectly suited for deeper work requiring steadiness and attention.
Accommodations
Guests stay in a shared, traditional Japanese tatami sleeping area. The tatami flooring creates a grounded, quiet atmosphere that supports rest and mindfulness.
Nourishment
Meals are prepared by Mr. Sato using local, seasonal ingredients. The cooking is simple, clean, and vegetarian—designed to be light and refreshing to maintain clarity and focus throughout your practice.
